CAM4 for Gay Cams: The Honest Review
CAM4 has been a home for male performers for years, and its men's section is one of the busiest outside Chaturbate. It's good. It also has a privacy history you should know about.
Verdict
CAM4 is worth bookmarking for its male rooms, especially European ones. For your first night, Chaturbate is still the easier free start. Before you buy CAM4 tokens, set up the account the privacy-first way described below.
The Men's Section
- Free public shows. Watching is free, and many rooms run long public sessions.
- Gay-first filters. The male section is split by orientation and type, so you aren't wading through unrelated rooms.
- A European tilt. CAM4 began in Europe and still draws a lot of performers and viewers from there. Evenings in the US can feel quieter than daytime.
Tokens and Shows
CAM4 runs on tokens, sold in packs that vary by country and payment method. Its small packs have tended to cost more per token than Chaturbate's, so compare the money, not the token count. Performers set their own private rates. Spy and group options cost less than a full private if you only want a look.
CAM4 also sells a Gold membership with extra features. As with any subscription, check whether it renews automatically before you join.
The 2020 Data Exposure
In March 2020, researchers at Safety Detectives found a CAM4 production log server left open online without a password. It held about 10.88 billion records, including names, email addresses, sexual orientation, chat transcripts and payment logs. Around 11 million records contained email addresses. CAM4's operator took the server offline after being alerted and said no one outside the researchers and its own investigators accessed personal data. WIRED and other outlets reported it at the time.
There's no evidence the data was stolen. For a gay viewer, though, a leak that includes sexual orientation is serious, and it's the best argument for the setup below. Our privacy and data breaches guide goes deeper.
Set Up CAM4 the Privacy-First Way
- Register with an email address used only for adult sites.
- Pick a username unrelated to your real name or other accounts.
- Use a unique password from a password manager.
- Prefer a prepaid or card-free payment method if one is offered in your country.
- Leave profile fields you don't need blank.
